What is toughened glass?
Toughened (tempered) glass is ordinary glass that has been heated and cooled in a controlled way until it becomes much stronger. If it does break, it crumbles into small blunt pieces rather than long sharp ones. That safety is why it is the standard glass for places where people touch, lean on or walk past it.

Why we measure first
Because toughened glass cannot be cut after it is made, the order is placed only once the measurement is final. We do this on site, and the visit is free.
The brand we use
Only original Saint-Gobain for toughened glass and mirrors. For other glass we also deal in AIS, Gold Plus and Modiguard. Our toughened glass doors use 12 mm glass with Starzone floor springs and 304 stainless steel accessories; see glass brands and hardware.
Usual toughened glass thickness by use
| Use | Usual thickness |
|---|---|
| Shower cabins | 8 to 12 mm |
| Doors | 12 mm (ours: 12 mm Saint-Gobain) |
| Partitions | 10 to 12 mm |
| Railings | 12 mm, or laminated glass |
These are usual figures. The right thickness depends on the size of the panel, and we confirm it at the site visit.
Frequently asked questions
What is toughened glass?
Toughened (tempered) glass is glass that has been heat-treated to make it stronger than normal glass. If it breaks, it breaks into small pieces instead of sharp shards.
How is toughened glass different from normal glass?
It is several times stronger, and it breaks into small, blunt pieces. Normal glass breaks into large sharp pieces. That is why toughened glass is used for doors, shower cabins, railings and partitions.
Can toughened glass be cut after it is made?
No. It cannot be cut, drilled or polished once toughened. Every hole and edge has to be decided before it is made, so exact measurement comes first.
Is toughened glass safe for shower cabins?
Yes. Shower cabins are one of its main uses.
How can I tell if glass is toughened?
Toughened glass usually has a small mark etched in one corner. If you are buying glass, ask to see it.
Where can I get toughened glass work done in Sahibabad?
At Aggarwal Glass. We have two shops in Sahibabad, at Shiv Shakti Vihar and Om Market (Mohan Nagar). The toughened glass we sell is original Saint-Gobain.
How thick should toughened glass be?
It depends on the use. Shower cabins usually use 8 mm to 12 mm, and railings and large partitions need thicker glass. We advise you at the visit.
Can someone come and see the site first?
Yes, free of charge. Nearby sites can often be seen the same day.
